LM Woman #17 / Margot Henderson

LM Woman #17 / Margot Henderson

We met Margot one late morning at the new Rochelle Canteen at the ICA. Perched on a mezzanine level, the Rochelle spirit brings warmth to the large historic building - unpretentious simple seating, jugs of fresh cut dahlias, shelves lined with hand labelled jars of her famous jams.  Margot is funny, warm, witty, magnetic and has a tenacious sensibility.  She tells us they were out the night before celebrating; Rochelle Canteen has just won the prestigious 2017 Tatler Restaurant Award for ‘Test of Time’, and it’s an accolade we couldn’t agree with more.
LM Woman #16 / Anouk Colantoni

LM Woman #16 / Anouk Colantoni

Weaving pen, vivacious watercolour and witty written word, artist Anouk Colantoni’s work is liberatingly womanly and real. A rollercoaster of boobs, sex, relationships and brazen humour pulsate across her frenetic, funny illustrations , as she shares with us stories of women in society and life that we can all relate to.  As warm, personal and wonderfully open as her art, we chatted to Anouk about her journey living in NYC from Fashion Editor to entering the world a working artist.

LM Woman #15 / Ruby Barber

‘Some people, like flowers, give pleasure, just by being’, American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson once said. This phrase could not be more apt for Berlin based florist Ruby Barber. Creator of Mary Lennox with collaborator and old friend Olivia, Ruby is a multidisciplinary florist producing dramatic, unexpected and sculptural arrangements. Known for her space at The Store x Soho House, Ruby works in a distinctively forward space in the florist world. Her work is a focus of composition and colour, as she gently tames wild and unusual blooms to create highly cinematic arrangements.
LM Woman #14 / Lucy O'Doherty

LM Woman #14 / Lucy O'Doherty

We met Australian artist Lucy O’Doherty on her last evening in Paris.  After winning the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship,  Lucy has just spent her summer working and living from a small studio in the Cité Internationale des Arts, an artist residency along the Seine that feels like a United Nations for young artists. The building is impressive; a maze of over 300 studios allowing musicians, performers and artists from over 50 countries to develop their practice.

For Lucy, her work mostly revolves around the home; she paints places that are always empty and suburban, with a soft fuzziness that makes each work glow with a mysterious sadness.

LM Woman #13 / Gabi Holzwarth

LM Woman #13 / Gabi Holzwarth

‘Profound kindness’ seldom comes to mind when you meet someone, but violinist Gabi Holzwarth is a rare exception.  Combined with a fierce drive, Gabi is an incredibly talented violinist who has made a name for herself in Silicon Valley, performing for tech companies after being discovered busking in the Bay Area.  Along the way she has used her profile for the greater good, even bravely discussing her battle with an eating disorder through a TED Talk. We chatted to Gabi about her musical world, from Burning Man to Tchaikovsky.

LM Woman #10 / Lia-Belle King

We meet the Lia-Belle, co-founder of WORN Store, in our newly refurbished Newport store. Lia-Belle looks at home amongst her pieces of WORN furniture - a part of the LM x WORN collaboration - perched harmoniously alongside Alana Wilson’s delicate ceramic vessels and our new season collection.

Warm-spirited, light-filled, often swathed in a cloud of white linen,  Lia-Belle King quite literally embodies the aesthetic of WORN, the lifestyle business she founded in 2015 with her wife, Lotte Barnes.

LM Woman #12 / Julia Busuttil Nishimura

LM Woman #12 / Julia Busuttil Nishimura

Since launching Ostro in 2014, Julia Busuttil Nishimura's collection of recipes have gained a loyal following for her doctrine toward seasonality & generous flavour - not to mention the enviable aesthetics. Recently adapted to hardcover & paperback, Ostro shares Julia’s pleasure that comes from slowing down and cooking with simple ingredients. Her dishes interpret her influences from Italy & the Mediterranean with a decidedly Australian element - a true representation of modern food, with a respectable nod to the timelessness & rich history of Italian fare.

We meet Julia in her home city of Melbourne to discuss the delight in cooking with intuition, her time spent immersing in Italian culture and her penchant for Japanese homewares.
